The puppet 2

Original sculpt laying in the mold as it is being set up

Mold walls glued together with wooden struts to elevate the character

sticks punctured through

glue gunned in place

plaster base poured in and cooled

original headless sculpt in place on struts ready and waiting for silicone

basic head set up size comp with hand to show eye lids

lids closed

lids glimmer

lids half open

lids open. (lids removed for extreame expressions)

snail skeleton with loop ready for the shell to be added

Original skull(gray) and plaster copy made for set prop

Skull with four copies

mold with poured silicone 2/3 filled

walled off sections to cover correct parts of the sculpt without wasting expensive silicone

Silicone setting and drying ( our flat stunk)

face reject versions

snail prop

mold with foam board walls removed

cutting the mold apart with scalples and craft knives so it would come apart latterally

cut created

evry part of the mould had to be cut and picked apart. the original sculpt was destroyed in the process

hand close up as the mold is lifted

mold halves taken apart

We didnt have enough silicone so it was bodged and bulked out by rice, clay and blocks of wood which is why it looks wierd.next time I make molds will order more than enough.

both halves of the mold

broken sculpt lying on the plaster slab...

Pro metal armature lying in the empty mold to check the fit.

for both of the puppets, both halves of the mold were coated with green mix latex layer by layer. morning and evening. 8-10 layers per puppet approx

wet latex drying

base hands waiting to be attatched

base pro armature bulked out with kneadatite

drying latex...

mase armature with bulking out 1

cotton and latex mix to bulk further

muscle bulk out over skeleton bfore laying in the mold which dried hard like plastic

mold had to be weighted down

with books

a day later the mold is opened up and the fresh puppet lies within. (very light)

lis light shade will dry out and darken all the way down into the finished puppet

inconsistancies in the cast

toes needed further work

detail bonded with walls of the mold

fresh out of the mold is a thing of beauty.
this is also one of the rare photos I have of the miniature skull mold (at the base of the puppet)

flash lines galore!

needs a lot of trimming

tried with the head on for the first time

a certain excitement passes though me as I saw this as this was the first time that you could see the potential shape in tact. it was really taking shape here.

trimming the flash off

took a long time. had some help to trim both puppets from the wife while I was making other parts and concocting the latex green shades etc...

nearly trimmed.

basic trimmed puppet minus hands as new ones had to be made...

old original hand was thrown away.

showing skeleton 2 before the mold

back of the head was painted with the same latex mix which had a long drying process

starting light and drying all the way to darker green over layers of drying

head in place and drying on body

shamelessly drying the head on our wedding cake topper sculpture that was close to hand :)

puppet sat waiting

hand shaped and drying

horns painted dark gray in acrylic citadel paints

un painted and painted comp

nice shiney, new and darker dried green
